9 Week Old Puppy: Tips, Video, Schedules & What To Expect
What Is A 9 Week Old Puppy?
A 9 week old puppy is one that was born from a litter of puppies less than or equal to 10 weeks old. They are not necessarily smaller than 8 week olds but they have grown significantly since their birth. Most commonly these pups weigh between 2 and 3 pounds at birth and grow up to weigh around 5 pounds at maturity. These are the most common breeds that are considered to be “puppies” because they tend to be very similar in size and appearance.
Why Are They Called “Puppies”?
The word puppy comes from the Latin word pupa which means egg. Eggs are produced during ovulation (the time when a female’s eggs develop into a ball). Pupae refers to young animals that have just hatched from eggs. So basically it means a young animal that has just come out of its mother’s womb. The term puppy came about due to the fact that many people thought the eggs were still developing inside the newborn animals.
How Long Do They Last For?
These little guys will last anywhere from 6 months to 1 year depending on how much exercise they get and what kind of food they eat. The average life span is around 7 to 9 years old.
Common Diseases And Illnesses:
These animals are prone to having hip dysplasia which is when the head of the femur does not fit properly into the acetabulum of the pelvis. They also often suffer from patellar luxation which is when the patella “jumps” out of place.
These issues are not always present at birth but can become more apparent as they grow older.
What Is The Best Food To Feed Them:
The general consensus is to feed them the exact same food that they would eat if they were living in the wild. This means that they mainly eat small animals, vegetation, and insects.
Commercial dog food contains many nutrients that these dogs do not necessarily need and may cause issues later on in life. If you insist on feeding them a commercial diet, make sure it is high quality and does not contain unnecessary fillers.
What Is The Best Exercise For These Animals:
The best exercise for these animals is to let them run around in a large open space where they can reach their full sprinting potential. They are actually one of the fastest animals on all fours so letting them roam free in your backyard will allow them to get the necessary exercise that they need.
They are also great swimmers which means owning a pool will help with their exercise as well. If you do not have the space for an open area, a treadmill will work just as well.
What Is The Best Way To Train Them:
These animals are very intelligent and can understand a command after it has been shown to them only a few times. They pay very close attention to your every move and will emulate it whenever they can.
For this reason, it is important to have a good relationship with your puppy. Take them for walks, play with them, and feed them regularly. They will grow very attached to you and in return will become your best friend. Puppies will test the boundaries of your patience but they will listen to you if you show no fear and continue to be the leader of the pack.
The Best Snacks:
You should feed your puppy a small meal every couple of hours to keep them from getting hungry and overeating. Most of the calories that they burn on a daily basis is from running around, playing, and general excitement.
Their diet should mainly consist of lean meats, fruits, and vegetables. Giving them cookies and bread on a regular basis will result in obesity which can lead to other health problems down the road.
The Best Medicine:
Make sure that your puppy gets all of their vaccinations on time. They should also see a vet regularly about twice a year for a checkup.
The most common illnesses that these dogs get are worms and fleas. It is very important to keep on top of their preventative medicine or else you could end up in the emergency room treating a serious illness.
