Labrador Arthritis and Arthritis in Other Breeds
What Is Labradinarian Arthritis?
Labradinarian arthritis is a common form of joint disease affecting both humans and dogs. It affects many breeds of dogs including the Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd Dog, Boxer, Dachshund, Husky, Jack Russell Terrier and others. Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds of dogs. They have been bred for their loyalty, docility and love of family. However, they are not immune from developing arthritis or other types of diseases due to poor breeding practices.
How Does Labradinarian Arthritis Affect Dogs?
The symptoms of labradinarian arthritis vary depending upon the breed of dog affected. Some dogs develop severe pain, swelling and stiffness in all joints. Others may experience only mild discomfort such as stiffening of the hind legs and/or pawing at their paws.
What is the Best Way to Care for a Dog with Arthritis?
The best way to care for a dog with arthritic symptoms is to manage the pain and swelling while keeping the joints as flexible as possible. Over the counter medication can help with the pain and anti-inflammatory drugs can help with the swelling. Some dogs need stronger medication such as steroids but these must be used carefully to avoid serious side effects.
Exercising the joints on a regular basis using massage, heat and gentle stretching can go a long way to relieving discomfort.
Are There Any Natural Remedies For Arthritis?
There are several herbal and natural supplements that some owners find helpful in treating their dog’s arthritis. Glucosamine and chondroitin are popular supplements that many arthritic dogs benefit from. Owners should always check with their veterinarian before administering any type of supplement to ensure that there are no negative interactions with other medications.
Can Dogs Be Put Down If They Become Incapacitated By Arthritis?
Yes, in some cases a dog may become incapacitated by arthritis to the point that it can no longer walk or even move without extreme pain and effort. In this case a vet may be able to administer a lethal injection to ease the dog’s suffering. This should always be a last resort and only considered if the dog is in severe pain and has no quality of life.
