Whether they are golden or black, these dogs have a strong muscular build. It is very rare for them to have any health issues related to their bones or joints. However, these canines are prone to certain health problems like cataracts, eye issues and joint dysplasia. Despite this, many of these dogs live until they are 10 to 12 years old.
This breed is known for its intelligence and ability to work closely with humans. The most common jobs for these animals include hunting, retrieving, herding, detecting drugs and search and rescue operations. These canines are used in search and rescue operations after natural disasters. They are man’s best friend for a reason and they are definitely one of a kind. They are known to be loving and caring towards their owners and will do whatever it takes to make them happy.
These dogs are very easy to train and are often used as guide dogs for the blind or deaf. It is also known to be one of the most recommended dog breeds for children.
The average litter size for a golden retriever is about six puppies. These dogs are very playful and will remain so until they reach adulthood. As they grow older, these animals tend to mellow out but will still enjoy fun activities such as swimming or fetch. These animals have a strong hunting instinct within them. They can easily catch the scent of anything and are capable of working independently. However, because of their loyalty towards humans, they will rarely wander too far away.
These dogs experience a great loss in personality when their owners are not around. They can even become depressed if left alone for extended periods of time. It is for this reason why many of these animals are abandoned or neglected by their original owners.
These animals are not suited to live in apartments or small homes due to their size and energy levels. They will do best living in a home with a yard.
